PCG offers its expertise and testing facilities for field trials for applied research on organic cultivation in heated greenhouse or polytunnels, as well as a network of growers. We are looking forward to collaborate in projects to enhance resource efficiency, biodiversity conservation, soil health, resilience to climate change and economic viability in greenhouses. PCG has a large network of growers (open air and greenhouse, conventional and organic) with which it has a good relationship. PCG acts as an advisor for growers and disseminates acquired results broadly among the sector. We often conduct trials at growers’ facilities, increasing involvement.
PCG is interested to investigate and share experiences concerning for example green manure, bankerplants, companion cropping at greenhouse level.
PCG is a research centre carrying out applied research in vegetable production in Belgium. Through practical trials, we strengthen the knowledge base of vegetable production and gather practical information, which we disseminate to growers. We also provide advice and a wide range of services. The research is focussed on several topics such as variety trials, fertilisation, crop protection and technical features. Research is set up in sheltered cultivation, both heated greenhouses or unheated polytunnels, and in open fields. A major part of our research in sheltered vegetable cultivation focusses on organic production, mostly on leafy and fruity vegetables.
PCG aims to be the bridge between the fundamental scientific research carried out at the universities and the growers. Our experience in dissemination activities and (semi)field trials combined with close contact with growers guarantees the implementation of (best) practices and new technologies. Vegetable growers are informed on a regular basis about the latest findings and tendencies of their professional interest through publications (both scientific and popular), meetings and field trips.
