Carbon sequestration, green manure, vineyard, apple orchard, C fluxes, nutrient management, cover crops, biodiversity
- at the farm level and its immediate surroundings
Develop cooperation in understanding the role of cover crops/green manure in ensuring long-term C sequestration (C-farming), managing mineral nutrition, increasing biodiversity, and improving water retention in horticultural systems
University of Bolzano - Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental, and Food Sciences.
As a research group, we own research infrastructure to measure at the ecosystem level (eddy covariance), soil and understory level (transparent and opaque chambers for soil respiration measurements), and plant and leaf level (leaf gas analyzer, plant-based sensors), the C, water, and energy fluxes of fruit tree ecosystems (mostly apple orchards and vineyards). Other techniques such as remote and proximal sensing, stable isotopes, and modelling were implemented in our current research
