Nutrient removal/recovery, agro wastewater, energy recovery
- at the landscape or territorial level
We are interested to join the consortium action as we work on wastewater treatment nutrient removal/recovery and metal recovery topics. My work has included a portion of studies related to anammox nitrogen and phosphorus removal and recovery. I have worked with anaerobic ammonium oxidation process as well as pharmaceutical removal performed by denitrifying bacteria. I have published near 90 papers and got 3300 citations and my h index is 41. We are interested in wastewater treatment tests, particular expertise in scientific publishing, communication, dissemination, and exploitation. We have capability to do tests with developed consortia of microorganisms, particularly anaerobic ammonium oxidizers, denitrifiers and denitrifying phosphorus removal organisms to treat nitrogen and phosphorus-rich agro industry wastewaters, also sludge. We have capabilities to analyse microbial composition of cultivated biomass at different treatment stages. We have an established network with local institutions, NGOs, school institutions, and our other affiliated entities in Estonia and Europe. Contact: a31168@ut.ee
We in University of Tartu are working on topics: wastewater treatment (nitrogen and phosphorus removal and valorizing), anaerobic ammonium oxidation process and denitrifying phosphorus removal bacteria for ammonium, phosphorus removal from municipal and sidestream wastewater, microbial fuel cell technology (anammox biocathode), peat usage as building material and humic substances valorizing in peat. Recent studies have guided us to recover metals from raw anaerobic sludge and compost from municipal wastewater treatment plants. Recovered metals would be Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, Fe, Pt, Pd, Cd, recovery will be done by using fungi and iodide oxidizing bacteria. Waste electronic equipment will also be used as a source of metal recovery. Assessment of waste treatment technologies efficiency has been done in several papers. The best journals where works have been published are: Science of Total Environment, Environmental Microbiology, Frontiers in Marine Science, Catalysts, Molecules, Environmental Health Perspectives.
