Improving the quality of soil, water and landscap, producing building materials and creating a revenue model for farmers: it can all be done at the same time with bio-based construction! Traditional building materials can easily be replaced by materials from agricultural crops. In addition to an additional revenue model, these biobased materials ensure the reduction of nitrogen emissions and the permanent storage of carbon. A sustainable chain between farmer and construction therefore offers prospects for the future.
Green Metropolis Twente (GMT) (in Dutch; Groene Metropool Twente) is a cooperation network of 14 municipalities, the water board and closely linked to University Twente and regional Innovation Agency Novel-T. We also maintain close contacts with agricultural colleges and Wageningen University. Being an green agricultural area, with 3500 agricultural companies, biodiversity and agroforestry are essential developments for which we participate in many national en European projects, e.g. INTERREG - RUMORE (RuralUrban Partnerships Motivating Regional Economies). We have special interest in developing a regional public fund for investing in biodiversity thius offering an incole potential for farmers.
GMT can offer staff and funds to projects. We are interested in project focussing on developing new policy and new approaches on agroforestry and testing of these approaches in pilot projects.
