Sustainable agriculture, food quality, food safety, intercropping, climate change adaption, authenticity, oil, oilseeds, alternative proteins and oils
- at the farm level and its immediate surroundings
We are interested in collaborating with partners from agriculture, farmers, field trials, oil mills and other research partners, e.g. to the following aspects:
(1) Influence of agroecological practices on oil seeds and fruits and their products, quantity = quality?
(2) How does oilseed diversification, e.g. new varieties and plants, and intercropping methods impacts quality and safety of oil crops and their products?
(3) Utilisation of oilseed and oil fruit remnants after oil extraction, like oil presscakes as alternative food proteins for a more sustainable and effective nutrient cycle.
(4) Does climate change and the adaptions of oil plant varieties and resilience strategies effects oil and protein qualities?
We use a wide range of methods describing the quality and authenticity parameters of cereals, oilseeds and -fruits and especially plant oils in our working group. We have also experience in the field of processing contaminants, residuals and authenticity questions. Finally, we utilize our access to a network of 10 research institutes across Germany and offer our expertise to join a multidisciplinary consortium.
The Max Rubner-Institut, Department of Safety and Quality of Cereals is a national governmental research institute based in Detmold/Germany that focuses on various aspects of agriculture products like cereals, potatoes, grain legumes, oilseeds and oil plants. A special task of our department is the annual assessment of quality of German bread cereals based on the agricultural statistics act and the so-called value analysis in the legal licensing procedure of new varieties by the federal office of plant varieties. Among them, rapeseed and other oilseeds and fruits are also examined and the institute conducts holistic research to support sustainable, safe, and quality aspects from the beginning at agricultural products to processed foods over the whole value chain.
