Fast-growing broadleaves, pioneer broadleaves, fast growth rate, agroforestry, feed for pollinators, wood for society, reduced eutrophication, riparian buffers, organic farming
- at the landscape or territorial level
Strategically placed riparian buffer zones with fast-growing pioneer broadleaves offers an opportunity to reduce eutrophication of rivers, lakes and seas and the simultaneous production of woody raw material. This raw material is a valuable complement in forest industry to produce textile and make Europe independent of the import of cotton. Fast-growing broadleaves offer several ecosystem services (feed for pollinators, wood for products, accumulation of leaching nutrients) and do not require pesticides, fertilization, irrigation as cotton cultivation does. In addition, lignins in the woody raw material can be used to manufacture liquid biofuel. This value chain has a great potential to make agricultural sector in Europe independent of the import and use of fossil fuels. I'm interested in partnership where agroforestry with fast-growing broadleaves at landscape scale is necessary as a part of a bigger project on organic farming.
