Transform value chains, businesses and policies to facilitate the transition to agroecology
Pilot site in Pays de la Loire for proposal : New business models in the value chains to reward agroecological practices
Location :
- 80 km² catchment area near Durtal in Pays de la Loire
- Issue: water restriction due climate change; limitation of water abstraction (~ -60%);
- Type of production : arboriculture, livestock, apiculture
Objectives:
- co-design with value chains stakeholders (including farmers, local authorities,
cooperatives…) innovative practices for farmers to slow down the water cycle by mobilizing
agroecological practices and Nature-based Solutions (cover crops, Agroecological
infrastructures, rotation with more grassland, drainage....)
- co-build a new business model (such as Payment for Ecosystemic Services schemes) that the
industry will remunerate for these efforts toward agroecological practices
Partners (Living Lab approach):
Members of value chains (consumers, industries, cooperatives, funders…). WWF France would
be on board, as it was with them that they want to impulse these changes, research teams.
Activities
The project will include the following activities:
• Workshops and Training: Organizing cross-border workshops and training sessions
where experts and farmers can discuss the best adaptation strategies.
• Field Demonstrations: Setting up demonstration farms where new, climate-resilient
practices can be tested and showcased to local farmers.
• Case Study Development: Compiling and sharing case studies of successful adaptation
strategies from different regions.
• Stakeholder Meetings: Regular meetings and online platforms for farmers, researchers,
and policymakers to share experiences and identify further areas of collaboration.
• Public Awareness Campaign: Raising awareness about the importance of climate
adaptation in agriculture and water restriction due climate chang
The Chamber of agriculture of Pays de la Loire region
The Chamber of agriculture is a public body in the service of the farmers and of the departmental and regional agriculture, administered by an assembly of elected farmer representatives. Our network of advisors is involved in agricultural policies, applied research and support groups of farmers through all the region. In R&D projects, collaborating with technical institutes and research partners, we foster dialogues between stakeholders of territories, innovation, trials and new practices with farmers on the field. We mainly work on living labs project and pilot sites, and we maintain demonstration farms networks in order to consolidate references and strengthen further technical advice. Our aim is to disseminate innovative training and events to reach farmers and their advisors first and foremost, but also political decision-makers, researchers, associations and citizens.
The Chamber of Agriculture of Pays de la Loire region is involved in various European projects, eg. H2020 or Interreg.
