Transform value chains, businesses and policies to facilitate the transition to agroecology
The Muğla Metropolitan Municipality has implemented numerous agricultural and rural development projects to support local farmers and foster sustainable practices across the province. Key initiatives include the establishment of experimental gardens such as the Medicinal Aromatic Plants Farm and Truffle Mushroom Garden, as well as a smart agriculture project in collaboration with the Information Technology Department.
Through the "Tarlanıza Geliyoruz" project, the municipality provides field visits for pest control, soil and water sampling, and offers technical support to farmers. Agricultural cooperatives also receive various types of assistance, including machinery, real estate, and marketing support. One notable initiative is the establishment of the Muğla Agricultural Power Union Operating Cooperative, bringing together agricultural cooperatives from two ministries to strengthen the sector.
The municipality has invested in value-added agriculture by building a fruit and vegetable drying facility, supporting farmers with product processing. Other projects include the creation of a medicinal plant collection garden, an olive oil tasting and sensory analysis lab, and a soil, plant, and irrigation water analysis lab. Additionally, a 100th Year Food Analysis Laboratory has been established under a partnership agreement with the Muğla Commodity Exchange to determine the quality of products produced in the province.
To promote sustainable agriculture, the municipality provides training on topics such as organic farming, truffle mushroom cultivation, efficient irrigation, and more. Water conservation and drip irrigation support are provided to combat drought, alongside projects like the Mediterranean Fruit Fly Control and Guaranteed Purchase Ornamental Plant Production.
Additionally, a Flake Feed Facility and Bee Feed Production Facility are being developed to support livestock and beekeeping. Efforts to enhance the quality of local agriculture are reinforced by partnerships with universities and local cooperatives to foster innovation, scientific research, and the use of alternative agricultural practices.
We are interested in joining a consortium for collaboration in any activity within the scope of the project topic.
As of 2014, with the implementation of legal regulations, the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality was established with its boundaries defined as the provincial administrative borders and began providing services. According to the administrative structure determined by the same legal regulation, 13 district municipalities provide services within the provincial borders. Additionally, under the mentioned regulation, villages were reclassified as neighborhoods, resulting in a total of 569 neighborhoods across the province. According to 2023 Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) data, the total population of the province is 1,066,736.
