Enhancing the genetic diversity and variability of crops and livestock for the agroecological transition
The Department of Agriculture and Environmental Engineering together with the Department of Food Research and Innovation at RISE work broadly within applied research, in close collaboration with end-users and stakeholders such as farmers, advisors, machinery manufacturers, retailers, and companies in food and biomaterials. We are particularly interested in participating in projects with a strong practical orientation that aim to strengthen farmers’ position while enhancing the sustainability and resilience of the food system.
We offer unique resources, including our newly established Living Lab on soil health and our testbed for digitalized agriculture, which can be integrated into project activities. In addition, we have a wide range of expertise across agriculture, food systems, and environmental engineering, making us a flexible and valuable partner for diverse project needs.
RISE is Sweden’s national research institute, employing more than 3,000 people across six divisions (Bioeconomy, Life Science, Built Environment, Digital Systems, Materials and Production and Safety and Transport). With over 130 testbeds and an extensive range of laboratories and research infrastructures, RISE offers one of Europe’s broadest competence bases. Our expertise spans areas such as agriculture, food science, regional transformation, health, education, environmental monitoring, AI and digitalisation, remote sensing, materials development, autonomous systems, social sustainability, and business models.
Within the Departments of Agriculture and Environmental Engineering and Food Research and Innovation, we address the entire Farm-to-Fork spectrum—from primary production and post-harvest processes to food processing, packaging, water management, biodiversity, environmental assessments, nutrition and health, and the digitalisation of agriculture. Our work is primarily applied and conducted in close collaboration with end-users and stakeholders, including farmers, advisors, machinery manufacturers, retailers, and companies in the food and biomaterials sectors. We offer unique resources, including our newly established Living Lab on soil health and our testbed for digitalized agriculture. Any expertise not found within our team can be readily accessed through the broad competence available across RISE.
