Strengthening farmers’ involvement and empowerment in the transition towards agroecology
What we can offer:
Marsilea can contribute to both Topic 1 and Topic 2 of the Call, acting as a key intermediary in multi-actor approaches and Living Labs:
1. Field Trials & Data Analysis (Topic 1 & 2)
- Setup and management of field trials ensuring statistical comparability and representativeness.
- Field monitoring, data collection, and analysis of agronomic performance under real-farm conditions.
2. Stakeholder Engagement & Co-creation (Topic 2)
- Needs Mapping: We have extensive experience in mapping the needs of diverse actors (farmers, advisors, supply chain intermediaries) to identify barriers and enablers for the agroecological transition.
- Bridging & Mediation: We act as facilitators, mediating interests between farmers and downstream supply chain actors to create new market opportunities.
- Farmer Network: We bring an established network of agroecological farms (fruit, vegetable, arable crops) in Italy that are open to innovation and experimentation.
3. Dissemination & Training (Topic 1 & 2)
- Experience in delivering training and educational programs across the Italian territory.
- Capacity to translate scientific results into practical guidelines for farmers and advisors.
Specific Interests for Collaboration:
We are looking to join a consortium interested in:
- Experimentation with minor crops to develop new sustainable supply chains.
- Promoting and validating intercropping, cover cropping, and agroforestry systems.
- Developing strategies to empower farmers through collective action and supply chain integration.
Our team is composed by professionals with international academic backgrounds. We are fluent in Italian, English, French, and Spanish, and possess strong connections with European, national, and regional networks, facilitating smooth cooperation within transnational consortia.
Marsilea is an Italian consultancy company specialized in agroecological farming and the practical implementation of low impact strategies. Our mission is to foster the agroecological transition by bridging the gap between scientific research, field application, and food chains. With a multidisciplinary team of agronomists combining agronomic expertise, economic analysis, and social facilitation skills, we design and implement scalable solutions that guarantee social, environmental, and economic resilience for farmers.
Core Expertise & Technical Skills:
We operate primarily in North and Central Italy, providing technical support and R&I services focused on:
- Agroecological Practices: Advanced expertise in intercropping, crop rotations, agroforestry, cover cropping, and the use of beneficial microorganisms.
- Input Reduction: Implementation of agronomic techniques to minimize external inputs and adoption of alternative strategies for weed and pest control.
- Genetic Resources: Selection and field testing of varieties specifically adapted to organic farming contexts, with a focus on alternative crops with high commercial potential to develop new value chains.
- Landscape Planning: Designing farm systems that integrate biodiversity and ecosystem services.
