Biogas tank rejected water treatment, deammonification, WWTP, anammox N removal, intermittent aeration, inhibition by nitrite.
Strengthening farmers’ involvement and empowerment in the transition towards agroecology
We in University of Tartu are working on topics: wastewater treatment (nitrogen and phosphorus removal and valorizing), anaerobic ammonium oxidation process and denitrifying phosphorus removal bacteria for ammonium, phosphorus removal from municipal and sidestream wastewater, microbial fuel cell technology (anammox biocathode), peat usage as building material and humic substances valorizing in peat. Recent studies have guided us to recover metals from raw anaerobic sludge and compost from municipal wastewater treatment plants. Recovered metals would be Au, Ag, Cu, Zn, Fe, Pt, Pd, Cd, recovery will be done by using fungi and iodide oxidizing bacteria. Waste electronic equipment will also be used as a source of metal recovery. Assessment of waste treatment technologies efficiency has been done in several papers. The journals where works have been published are: Science of Total Environment, Environmental Microbiology, Frontiers in Marine Science, Journal of Water Process Engineering, Environmental Health Perspectives etc.
