Strengthening farmers’ involvement and empowerment in the transition towards agroecology
FATIMA Multi-Purpose Cooperative (FATIMA MPC) seeks to collaborate under the Agroecology Partnership Program to advance a sustainable and inclusive purple yam value chain that empowers farmers and bridges smallholder production with industrial-scale processing. The cooperative is committed to partnerships that promote innovation, technology adoption, and circular bioeconomy approaches grounded in natural resource conservation.
FATIMA MPC promotes a multi-actor, transdisciplinary and participatory framework in which financial (access to credit) and technical solutions for organic and net-zero purple yam production and processing are co-designed with local farming communities. This ensures that the transition toward sustainable production and consumption systems is farmer-led, climate-resilient, and socio-economically viable.
As a strategic Living Lab, the cooperative integrates farmers’ indigenous knowledge with scientific and technological innovations to strengthen climate-smart production systems. Through this approach, FATIMA MPC transforms purple yam growers from passive suppliers into active stakeholders and co-investors in a resilient, inclusive, organic and net-zero purple yam circular bioeconomy.
FATIMA Multi-Purpose Cooperative (FATIMA MPC) is a member-owned cooperative serving 16,187 members (with over 5,000 farmer-members) through accessible and inclusive financial and enterprise services.
