Biodiversity, Agroecology, Sustainable Development
Transform value chains, businesses and policies to facilitate the transition to agroecology
Our proposed project, titled "Yalova ATAPARK: Rehabilitation and Conservation of Biodiversity and Sustainable Development through Agroecological Approaches" aims to enhance Yalova’s agricultural capacity and biodiversity using innovative technologies (renewable energy systems and smart agricultural technologies) and agroecological practices (pesticide-free and polyculture agriculture), contributing to the socio-economic and environmental sustainability of the region. The proposed project also aims to develop policies for transitioning to environmentally friendly agricultural production and agroecological practices (pesticide free and polyculture agriculture) in regional and national levels. The proposed action will be implemented in the area formerly called as the Millet (National) Farm where has served as a high-quality agricultural land for many years, hosting agricultural research and development activities. Under the action a rehabilitated and modernized agricultural land, serving as a business model for agroecological practices and policy recommendations to guide long-term agroecological strategies will be created.
In this context, we would like to collaborate with research institutes, private companies and non-profit organizations to leverage your expertise in biodiversity and agroecology and ensure impactful outcomes for our project.
Yalova is a city in northwestern Turkey, situated on the eastern coast of the Sea of Marmara. Geographically, Yalova is strategically located near major cities: it's about an hour away from Istanbul by sea transport and is also in proximity to Bursa and Kocaeli. This advantageous position makes it a significant hub for both tourism and commerce.
Administratively, Yalova Municipality oversees the city's governance and services. The municipality is responsible for urban planning, infrastructure, cultural and agricultural activities, and public services, aiming to enhance the quality of life for its residents and visitors. In recent years, Yalova Municipality has established various projects and goals in the fields of environmental protection and sustainability. In this context the municipality established Climate Change and Zero Waste and Agricultural Services directorates and focused on creating an environmentally friendly and sustainable city. In terms of environmental challenges and climate change, the municipality has launched numerous projects aimed at promoting sustainability and resilience, including the development and implementation of a Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP). This plan focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and encouraging the use of renewable energy sources. Furthermore, Yalova Municipality has a 1st Class Waste Collection Centre for preventing environmental pollution and integrate recyclable waste into the economy. This centre aims to recycle thousands of tons of waste each year, contributing both to the environment and the economy.
