Strengthening farmers’ involvement and empowerment in the transition towards agroecology
ProVeg Portugal is interested in cooperating to advance sustainable and resilient food systems by promoting agroecological practices and legumes production. Specifically, we aim to:
- Promote crop diversification, support cultivation of legumes, encourage crop rotation, intercropping, and overall biodiversity in farming systems.
- Create market demand and policy support through advocacy for national strategies, generating economic and political incentives for farmers to adopt diverse, agroecological production systems.
- Collaborate with farmers, researchers, and stakeholders to implement practices that enhance environmental sustainability, conserve natural resources, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while also fostering innovation and knowledge exchange in sustainable agriculture.
Through this cooperation, ProVeg Portugal seeks to combine policy advocacy, education, and practical farming initiatives to accelerate plant-rich, sustainable food systems.
ProVeg Portugal works to protect the environment and conserve nature by promoting sustainable and resilient food systems. Through this call, ProVeg aims to:
- Inform, promote, and support the dissemination of sustainable, plant-rich food;
- Educate and raise awareness among the general public about environmental sustainability, natural resource conservation, human health, and social justice;
- Develop environmental education and awareness initiatives, as well as research and scientific outreach on the environmental impact of food;
- Collaborate with farmers to implement policies and practices that support their livelihoods, protect natural resources, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
