Enhancing the genetic diversity and variability of crops and livestock for the agroecological transition
Our institution offers expertise in neglected and underutilized crops (NUCs) as climate-resilient genetic resources for agroecological transitions. Research strengths include crop-climate modeling, development of decision support systems, suitability assessment, and stakeholder co-design approaches. We are developing regional collaboration capacity across South Asia (India, Nepal, Sri Lanka) focused on farmer-centered research and policy-oriented outcomes. We seek European partnerships to conduct comparative studies on NUCs adaptation strategies, knowledge exchange between tropical and temperate systems, and scaling living lab methodologies across diverse agroecological contexts.
Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL) is a state university with over 700 staff including 300 academics across 9 faculties. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences comprises 3 specialised departments and 6 modules covering all agricultural disciplines. Faculty members have extensive experience collaborating with European partners through Horizon 2020, Erasmus+ and other projects, ensuring effective transnational research coordination. We maintain active international networks across South Asia and Europe, with capacity for transnational project coordination and multi-actor engagement.
