Enhancing the genetic diversity and variability of crops and livestock for the agroecological transition
We could contribute to the call with one or more research topics:
1) Testing different alternative legume vegetable species and varieties in organic horticulture, f.e. developing new cultivation technologies to help adapt to a changing climate and increasing drought (f.e. edamame soy).
2) Developing inoculants for those alternative legume vegetable species which are not native to Carpathian Basin / Europe, aiming to increase their adaptibility (f.e. Vigna species, peanut).
3) Selection of tomato landraces performing the best in organic farms, placing seedlings on the market. Developing of peat-free substrates in seedling production.
The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (ÖMKi) is the only research institute in Hungary that specializes in organic agriculture. It was established in 2011 with the aim of promoting the improvement and more widespread use of organic agriculture in Hungary. We conduct research activities in several subjects: arable land, horticulture, animal husbandry - through on-farm network and citizen science research. We have broad experiences in cooperating H2020 projects.
