Enhancing the genetic diversity and variability of crops and livestock for the agroecological transition
Conservation of genetic diversity in terrestrial orchids: population-level assessment, in situ conservation and linkage with habitat restoration.
Ex situ conservation and biotechnology: seed and tissue culture, micropropagation, development of conservation-oriented propagation protocols.
Symbiotic & asymbiotic germination: isolation and use of mycorrhizal fungi, optimisation of germination and growth media.
Seedling development and field transfer: seedling growth and acclimatisation, pilot reintroduction and monitoring activities.
Our Institute is a public agricultural research organisation operating under the national Agricultural Research Institutes Duty Directive, in line with the 2023 Vision of the General Directorate. It serves the regions of Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Adıyaman, Adana, Osmaniye, Kilis and Hatay, focusing on region-specific agricultural and environmental challenges.
The Institute conducts applied and strategic research in field crops, horticulture, soil and water resources, plant health, agricultural economics, biodiversity and genetic resources, with particular expertise in salep (terrestrial orchids), medicinal and aromatic plants, and sustainable production systems.
Research activities are carried out through interdisciplinary departments and in close cooperation with public institutions, the private sector and farmers. The Institute’s mission is to develop sustainable, high-quality and economically viable varieties and production technologies, ensure effective knowledge transfer and extension, and contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and natural resources.
