Strengthening farmers’ involvement and empowerment in the transition towards agroecology
AgroecoliveLab is interested in joining transnational research consortia focused on agroecology, sustainable Mediterranean farming systems, and climate-smart agriculture. We seek collaboration in projects addressing the agroecological transition of woody crops (particularly olive groves), including biodiversity enhancement, soil health, carbon cycling, ecosystem services, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and farmer-centred innovation. We are especially interested in projects with a strong applied dimension, living labs, multi-actor approaches, and a clear strategy for communication, dissemination, and knowledge transfer to farmers and stakeholders.
AgroecoliveLab is an applied agroecology research group based at the University of Jaén (Spain), specialised in woody crops and Mediterranean agroecosystems, with a particular focus on olive groves. The group has extensive experience in agroecology, soil and environmental sciences, and sustainability science, combining field experimentation, laboratory analyses, modelling, and participatory approaches.
Our core expertise includes sustainable crop management, soil health and biogeochemical processes, carbon balance and CO₂ sequestration, assessment of ecosystem services, and the development of climate-smart agricultural practices. AgroecoliveLab has coordinated and participated in more than 35 national and international research projects, with a strong track record in Horizon and LIFE-type initiatives, and has produced over 180 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
In addition to research excellence, AgroecoliveLab is internationally recognised for its leadership in communication, dissemination, and knowledge transfer. The group designs and implements innovative strategies to translate scientific results into practical knowledge for farmers, advisors, and policymakers, including training activities, outreach events, digital tools, and science-based communication campaigns. This combination of scientific, technical, and dissemination capacities positions AgroecoliveLab as a reliable and high-impact partner in European research and innovation consortia.
