Strengthening farmers’ involvement and empowerment in the transition towards agroecology
We are particularly interested in exploring a collaboration for Topic 2 of the 3rd Call of the Agroecology Partnership as it specifically falls under our area of interest and expertise.
Our idea for this specific topic is a cooperative agroecological business model in which Protiberia provides Tenebrio molitor eggs and technical support, while local farmers breed and fatten the larvae using by-products from their own crops. Protiberia then collects the larvae for processing, and the farmers apply the insect frass as an agroecological fertilizer on their fields, contributing to a circular and sustainable production system.
Protiberia is open to participate in any project ideas that you could have in mind in relation to feeding the insects using crop by-products and/or using insect frass as an organic fertilizer.
Please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us.
Villainsect SL (Protiberia) is a Spanish biotech SME pioneering the research and industrial development of the yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor L.). Our mission is to unlock the full potential of this insect by producing high-quality protein meals, lipids, and functional ingredients, as well as valuable by-products such as frass, chitin and chitosan- all aimed at creating sustainable solutions for the feed and food industries (aquaculture, poultry, swine, pets, zoos, and beyond). Our vertical insect farming system, which involves breeding and rearing of this insect, transforms blowaste from local agri-food industries into high-value raw materials, promoting resource efficiency and reducing environmental impact across the value chain.
Villa Insect is continuously seeking international collaborations to foster joint R&D and innovation activities. We are open to collaborations with multiple partners that share our vision. Our aim is to contribute as a reliable partner in multidisciplinary consortia.
