The National Alliance of The Gambia was officially incorporated on April 30, 2020, by the Gambia government's company registration, under the account number C-66521/4-2020.
The National Alliance for Agroecology, the Gambia (NAAG) is a membership organization of 17 registered associations, including farmers, livestock producers, fishers, and food processors. Its Executive Committee comprises 20 members, including elected positions for youth and women. NAAG advocates social justice, environmental sustainability, focusing on community, access to seeds, and promotion of land rights, gender equity in agriculture, and using agroecological practices. Their initiatives aim to strengthen local economies and food sovereignty, communication at the community level, as well as afforestation and reforestation. enhance resilience against climate change, reduce corporate control in food production, and preserve seed diversity and biodiversity for sustainable agriculture.
The mandate includes promoting, empowering, and policy advocacy for farmers in agroecology, organic agriculture, and environmental sustainability through capacity development, exchange of best practices, and sharing of knowledge among family farmers to improve the environment and ensure the social and economic well-being of the farmers while protecting the environment.
