Nahrungswald e.V. is committed to promoting forest garden systems, especially in the area of food production in German-speaking countries.
It is dedicated to making the potential of forest gardens, food forests and species-rich agroforestry accessible through educational programmes, networking and concrete practical projects.
As an independent organisation, it continues the work of the forest garden project, which has been in existence since 2019. The association was founded at the end of 2024 by Ramos Strzygowski.
Ramos Strzygowski's previous successes, on which the association builds, include:
- Establishment of Waldgartenpilot.de near Berlin, which shows how forest gardens can function as agricultural businesses (funded in 2021 by the German Postcode Lottery)
- Hosting the first online forest garden congress in March 2024 with 40 lectures and workshops over a weekend, which are now available online free of charge, and creating a forest garden directory that offers a database-supported map of projects and stakeholders in German-speaking countries (both funded by the UBA/BMU). www.waldgartenkongress.de
- Creation of an operational concept for forest gardens as an agricultural method, demonstrating their economic, ecological and social sustainability. www.waldgartenkonzept.de
- In addition, the association offers regular networking formats such as the monthly forest garden get-together, which has been providing interested parties and experts with a space for exchange since October 2023.
Since December 2025 we are part of a erasmus+-project developing a food foresters vocational training within the EU.
